Happy Monday Worker Bees,
The new year has started and the holidays have come to an end for most of us. Getting back into the swing of things after doing nothing for a good 2 weeks is the mother of all ball aches. Trying to find that motivation to get out of bed, trying to find that positivity stick to beat yourself with. January very quickly becomes Janu-worry and I feel as if we can only blame ourselves. I am all for fresh starts and setting goals but we put a lot of pressure on ourselves when starting a new year. Regenerating the same new years resolutions, repeating “new year new me” – ag it’s just so cliche and so unnecessary. We tend to over commit to things and when the pressure gets too much – it all starts to fall apart. That’s usually followed by “Eff it, I’m going to just YOLO the rest of the year and try again next year.”
I decided to start the year off with no pressure and let me tell you – it… feels… AH-MAZING! I have a vague idea of how I would like my year to go, I have set some goals but nothing I plan to beat myself up about. New Years resolutions may work for some people but it’s really not my jam. I just want to enjoy the journey of 2018 and see what it has to bring me and how it will mold me. I have given myself three main focus points for the year and that is 1. Work, 2. Travel and 3. Self love & happiness. These are just three things that I want to pay more attention to.
As mentioned in my previous “fashion with passion” post it’s never too late to do something that truly makes you happy. People that say that it is too late – I want to punch in the face. It’s only too late because you have given up, that’s no attitude to have. Don’t ever give up hope and soon you will see that anything is possible. Speed bumps and potholes (with the potential flat tyre) are only natural to have along the way. Trust me without them your story won’t be that interesting to tell. It’s how you choose to tackle these hiccups that determine the outcome. Don’t spend another year in a job that doesn’t make your heart sing. Spending the year moping around the office, thinking to yourself; this isn’t what you want, going home stressed over something that makes you so unhappy – what kind of life is that to live. Find something that sets your soul on fire and pursue it. If you know in your heart that you can do better then JUST DO IT! Stop making excuses, be the person that went for it. You don’t want to turn around one day and think to yourself “what if?” Your dream job doesn’t happen over night but you will get there and once you do, you will feel a happiness like no other. Enjoy the process, enjoy learning about yourself. Live a life that you want to be proud of. That’s not my goal for 2018, that’s a goal for my life. That statement right there, takes the pressure of 2018 to an all time low.
Every year for the past, God knows how many years, I say to S, we HAVE to go overseas this year. We have to travel more. We have to see the world. Then the end of the year comes and I am beyond disappointed because it never happened. It never happened not just because of finances but because we get so consumed in work that we make no time for play. I had to start viewing travel from a realistic point of view. I live in an incredibly beautiful country and I’ve barely seen any of it. In fact, I’ve probably explored a mere 5% of it. And so, as much as a trip to Tuscany would be something spectacular, I plan to explore more of my own home. I already have three trips planned for the first quarter of the year, that’s already a major improvement from last year and it’s got me excited. Tuscany will happen for me some day and I am quite happy with that. A change in mindset is everything. Any sort of travel is great whether it be local or international – in both cases you will come out with new stories and more educated about the world that you live in.
It all comes down to finding a balance. One thing that’s DEFINITELY not on my list, which I am sure is on, pretty much, every second persons list is the whole fitness thing. That ship has sailed a long time ago. Au reviour and leave me be. I’m not saying I plan to become a couch potato, eat super unhealthy and never do any sort of working out but I will do it at my own pace. I’m not planning on entering some bikini competition so really the pressure is just unnecessary for someone like me. We live in a world that has become so consumed with “the perfect” body and looking a certain way that it’s actually become nauseating. And as I typed nauseating, all I could see is “….eating” and now I’m hungry. I ended 2017 happy with me and I plan to continue that in 2018. I am no super model, I highly doubt I’ll ever have a super flat, rock hard tummy and you know what – I am 150% ok with that because I love me. Of course, I’ll have my days where I feel overwhelmingly insecure but that is only normal. Overall I am happy with myself. Last year, I taught myself to stop comparing myself to others, to stop caring so much what others think of me. This is me, take it or leave it. Self love is so important. I have said this before many a times and I will say it again, you can’t expect to be happy with someone else, if you aren’t happy with yourself. Take time of for you. Take time out to figure out what makes you happy. Take time out to get comfortable in your own skin and I assure you that you will have a different outlook on your life. You can totally do this! You are beautiful, you are smart, you are competent, you can do anything you put your mind to. Don’t underestimate yourself.
I want to end this post in the most possibly cliched way ever…
“This is your LIFE. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things YOU LOVE. Stop over analyzing, all emotions are beautiful. Life is simple. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms and heart to new things and people, we are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dreams with them. Travel often, getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them, so go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and wear your passion.”
