Welcome back fellow beauty lovers,
I hope you are doing absolutely splendid. I thought I’d put together a quick review on a drugstore foundation and primer that I’ve been trying out. I really wanted a foundation that gave off more of a silky finish as I’m quite bored of the whole matte look. Bored might not be the correct word but I just feel like my skin has been looking some what dull lately, and the only reason I can think of is that I only use mattifying foundations. I feel as if it’s easier to find a mattifying foundation than any other.
A while back a friend and I were getting ready for a day out and I saw her using the Catrice Prime & Fine Beautifying Primer. She raved about it and said it was the best thing ever. Naturally I tried it and I was quite impressed with the product, so off to Dischem I went and got one for myself. Along with the Primer I decided to pick up a Catrice foundation. The Even Skin Tone foundation caught my eye as I didn’t see the word “matte” on the bottle. I couldn’t wait to get home and try out my new products. At that point I still had not found a drugstore foundation that I’m crazy about.
Let’s talk Primer first.
The Prime and Fine Beautifying Primer comes in a dusty pink tube. Catrice’s promise “A pink primer as a base with a soft shimmer and nourishing vitamin E. The light-reflecting pearl-pigments give the complexion a natural glow and make it look smooth and flawless. The silky texture has a subtle fragrance, is long-lasting and can be applied underneath foundation to make it last longer or worn on its own for a gorgeous glow thanks to the light-reflecting pigments.”
I love that the primer contains vitamin E, as this will help moisturize the skin and for those of you that don’t know, it actually helps with lightening dark circles. The texture of the product is light-weight and creamy. It absorbs nicely into the skin and once applied it leaves my skin feeling silky soft. I was a little skeptical about the light-reflecting pearl-pigments as I really didn’t want to look like one of the Cullens in the sun or look like I had sweat patches on my face. I’m happy to report that none of that happened. It really did leave my skin with a gorgeous glow, exactly what I’ve been wanting. The primer really did help prolong the wear of my foundation, there was no flaking, just perfectly glowy summer skin. At just R92.95, at Dischem, this primer is definitely a bargain buy and a must have if you are looking to achieve a gorgeous glow.
Catrice’s promise: “The creamy texture of the Even Skin Tone Beautifying Foundation contains an SPF of 25 and offers medium to high coverage. A dermatological study confirms: after just 8 weeks of daily application, the Even Skin Tone Beautifying Foundation visibly brightens pigmentation marks. The long-lasting, pampering texture also instantly covers colour irregularities and redness for a silky-matt, smooth skin tone. For a perfect, radiant complexion!”
The foundation comes in a beautiful frosted glass 30ml bottle, with a pump. The texture of the product is really nice and creamy. A little goes a long way, so don’t pump out too much, to avoid wastage I would only do two pumps. The foundation definitely gives a medium coverage, applying a second application would give you the high coverage that it claims to give. However, I personally prefer just one application. I found that the foundation was best applied with a brush. I like that the foundation is lightweight and doesn’t make your skin feel caked. I got a good 5 hours wear out of the foundation just on it’s own, before having to slightly touch up around my nose and chin. When applying it on top of the Catrice Prime and Fine Beautifying Primer, I get a good 7-8 hours. For a drug store foundation that impressed me a lot! The foundation leaves your skin looking radiant. And with the added SPF of 25, your skin will look beautiful and protected! I rarely ever suffer from redness on my skin, so sadly I can’t vouch for Catrice’s promise of covering redness. I must say that I am rather chuffed with this purchase and I definitely didn’t think I would enjoy the foundation as much as I do. I now use this foundation on a daily basis and absolutely love it. The foundation retails for R144.95 which definitely won’t break the bank. Sadly though the foundation only comes in 4 shades. I’m really hoping that it comes out in more.
A very successful Catrice splurge that didn’t make me poor. Happy days! I’m considering putting together a drugstore makeup tutorial on my YouTube channel. Yay or Nay?
Wishing you a fabulous day!
