Have you at any point looked at yourself in the mirror, stared at your hair and thought… “Man, what I would do to get my virgin hair back?” The reality is, majority of us have over bleached and over processed our hair, we depend on our hair dryers and hair straighteners to style our hair, basically we have put our hair through hell and we expect it to look SUPER healthy and lush after it all. Well honey, that isn’t going to happen. Damaged hair needs a lot of TLC. I’m obviously a natural brunette who has chosen the blonde life, I put my hair through a lot to keep it this way, so home hair care is so vital. Rubybox and Dove were kind enough to send me the Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner to try out.
Before we hop into my opinion on the shampoo and conditioner, let’s give you a bit of information about the product – Dove’s claim:
We all want beautiful healthy hair but it’s easy for our hair to get damaged from styling and everyday wear and tear. Dove understands that with the right product, your hair can be protected and nursed back to health. Specifically formulated for the treatment of damaged hair, Dove Nutritive Solutions Shampoo Intensive Repair with Nutri Keratin Repair Actives is an amazing solution for damaged hair. This strengthening shampoo deeply nourishes and helps to repair and strengthen even the most damaged hair from the inside out. Aiding in de-tangling and suitable for daily use this Dove conditioner makes hair feel smoother look shinier and healthier and improves manageability. There is a visible repair and nourishment of hair wash after wash. For best results use in conjunction with Dove Nutritive Solutions Conditioner Intensive Repair Refers to the signs of damage”
Off the bat, the smell of the shampoo and conditioner is divine. It’s so fresh and the packing is clean and simple, the way I like it. Onto the juicy stuff… my hair felt silky soft and smelled great after the first wash. Which was fabulous, naturally. The product lathered REALLY well, a little goes a long way, so don’t go product crazy like I did.
I tend to wash my hair every third or fourth day, however with the Dove Intensive Repair shampoo and conditioner, I felt the need to sometimes wash my hair sooner. I have no clue if my hair is having a moment of its own but after day two it feels oilier than usual (my hair is naturally on the oilier side of life) and I experienced slight flaking on my scalp. I’m not about the flaking life. This has sadly put me off the product even though my hair does feel a lot softer than before and it doesn’t appear to be as damaged. Day one and two are great but I don’t like washing my hair too often as I feel that I am stripping my hair of its natural oils if I do. This may not be the best shampoo and conditioner for my hair type and so I wouldn’t necessarily purchase this product.
I have taken a before and after picture for you guys, I did have my hair colored in these 3 weeks, so my roots look RATCHET in the first picture and my hair was tied up prior to the picture (I don’t think its necessarily a fair before and after but it is what it is). The after picture is how my hair looks after blow drying it.
Now we all have to bare in mind that no product is going to make a MASSIVE change to damaged hair, it’s kind of impossible. I think that it can help improve the condition of it a bit but that’s about it. If you suffer with super dry hair then this might be the product for you, it might help add back the hydration that your hair is lacking. Dove products are available in all drugstores and are super affordable. I honestly don’t think that this product is horrible at all, I just don’t think it worked out for me sadly.
Remember invest in your hair and take care of it. It’s your crown, it deserves to be worshiped and given the love it so truly deserves. As you can tell, I think highly of my hair hahaha!
Let me know if you have tried out the Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner? I would love to know If it worked out for you.
