Catrice Primer

19 October 2014 | 2 Comments

I know it’s been ages since my last post, but sadly sometimes life gets in the way and takes away some of your fun. Nonetheless I’m back and promise to keep things up to date. This year has been a super long one and I cant wait for the December holiday. To me there is no better way to relax than to be on the beach, listening to the waves, feeling the sand between your toes and butt cheeks, feeling the sun on your skin (that tingly feeling is sun burn, so don’t forget your sunscreen) and sipping on a Pina Coloda. Mmmmmmm… the joys! Until then though we got to keep grinding. Back to todays blog post…

As I have mentioned before in a previous post, I use the Smashbox Photo Matt Anti Shine Primer and I adore it. I recently ran out and instead of ordering online like I use to I decided to pop into an Edgars Red Square store to purchase a new one. To my horror I was told that the product was discontinued. When did this happen? And why was I not consulted about it? (That’s the drama queen in me coming out) I took a look at the other Smashbox Primers, however they just were not in my price range at that specific time. I walked out of Edgars a very sad puppy but in my state came up with a Plan B. I had read a review on the Catrice Primers and decided to try it out myself.

I didn’t purchase one Catrice Primer but two. The Primers costs R79.95 each and are available at Dischem stores. I skipped off home with my new purchase and couldn’t wait to try them out.

I started off with testing the Prime & Fine Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base Primer (a bit of a mouth full). The product has a gel like feel to it and looks a lot like a moisturizer. The primer sets really quickly so you have to be quick when applying it, this can be a good thing or a bad thing. If you are in a rush and need a quick fix then the quick set is perfect. The Primer is meant to Mattify your skin, prolong your foundation and visibly refine your pores. I must say, coming from someone with reasonably oily skin -the primer doesn’t do a bad job with regards to mattifying my skin. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this primer to someone with highly oily skin. I was really happy with how long my foundation lasted before I had to do a mini touch up, however I didn’t see any difference when It came to my pores. My conclusion for this Primer is that it is a great budget product and it gets the job done.

Onto the second Primer I purchased. This was the Catrice Primer & Fine Anti-Red Base. The Tube is green and so is the product. I assure you that you will not look like Shrek after the application. The color fades into a clear finish, the primer is a color correcting product, hence the green color. It is meant to reduce the redness on your face. I break out in red patches on my face after every shower. Sadly the red patches do not go away for quite sometime, so naturally I was super excited when I came across the Anti-Red Base. Just like the Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base, the product has a gel like texture. The finish is clear however has glitter in it. This is a slight deal breaker for me. I am not the type of girl that wants to sparkling in the sun like Bella Swan. In comparison to the Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base this primer is a little disappointing. It didn’t reduce the redness on my face however my foundation did last throughout the day.

All in all the Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base is my favorite. Just remember that just because a specific product doesn’t work for me doesn’t mean that it won’t work for you. Try it out and let me know what you think. The great thing about this brand is that it is super affordable so It’s not like its going to break the bank. I have heard many great things about their other products and can not wait to try them out. I am always looking for a great primer, so if you have any recommendations let me know 🙂

Am new to make up and finding our about BB creams and primers. I just bought foundation and assumed I was good to go. ha ha.

I may give this a try just due to the affordability and once I know what it is I am looking for, I can try something more expensive:)

So you haven’t found a replacement for your Smashbox primer yet?

Dee_OhSoChic says:

hahaha in the beginning it is all about trial and error. You have to experiment a little in order to find what best suits you.
I do plan on purchasing one of the newer Smashbox Primers, once I do I will put up a review on it.
If you have any requests for reviews, let me know and I will see what I can do 🙂
