That's Totally Fetch

Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer

Hello Beauty,

Just like every woman in the world, I have been on the look out for the perfect concealer for YEARS! I can’t tell you the amount of concealers I have tried in my lifetime. I almost came to the conclusion that no concealer will ever be able to cover up the tiredness that resides under my eyes until…

Tarte Cosmetics released a new concealer called Shape Tape (the offical name: Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer – DEAR LAWD) back in 2016. EVERY beauty guru that I was watching was going off about how incredible this concealer was. Naturally, it wasn’t available in stores in South Africa because South Africa sucks when it comes to hooking us up with makeup products. The itch to get my hands on this concealer started. A year later I got my hands on it… YUP! A year! As usual before we get into my review, we first need to see what Tarte Cosmetics claims the product does:

Sculpt and highlight as you mask imperfections with this 2-in-1 full coverage concealer. The hydrating, longwearing formula delivers natural, radiant coverage across all skin types so you can instantly brighten and cover acne, dark circles and redness while softening the look of pores and fine lines. Wear it 1-2 shades lighter or darker, and it works as a creamy highlighter or contouring stick with a lightweight, blendable formula and tapered wand applicator ideal for precise strobing and sculpting. Powered by Amazonian clay and conditioning mango seed and shea butters, the nutrient-rich concealer helps promote skin elasticity and illumination with each crease-free application. Apply it with the all-in-one Quickie Blending Sponge for a quick, complexion fix and flake-free finish anywhere.

Cruelty free, gluten free, vegan

Sounds magical doesn’t it? Naturally with claims like that you would have the highest of hopes and that’s why I was so nervous to try it. What if I tried it and my skin was like “meh”.

Did it Work?

The doefoot is rather large and in charge, I was quite taken back by the size of it. It definitely picks up a lot of product, so be careful not to go all crazy on your face like I did. I purchased a lighter shade, so that I could use it for highlighting. I definitely plan on ordering a darker shade for contouring and a shade matching my skin color. When Tarte states full coverage, they mean it. This bad boy is pigmented AF! The best part is that even though it is a full coverage product, it doesn’t feel heavy on your skin. The formula is nice and creamy. The product applies really easy, I got the best results using a damp beauty blender. You don’t need the Tarte Quickie Blending Sponge for it to work. I used my Real Techniques beauty blender and it worked like a charm. The finish is definitely matte, so claiming that it is for all skin types is a little bit of a stretch. If you do struggle with dry skin, I would recommend applying a hydrating primer before applying the Tarte Shape Tape, even though Tarte claims that the product is hydrating. My skin did go through hell this winter and it was extra dry, so there were one or two occasions where I noticed creasing. However, I hold my skin accountable for that. As my skin has improved, so have the results of the product. The concealer definitely is long wear, which is a huge tick in the pro box for a lot of us. I’m not the biggest fan when it comes to the smell, I can’t quite put my finger on what it is but I’m not entirely crazy about it. I am so happy that Tarte is a cruelty-free brand. No animals had to suffer for us to look fabulous.

I think the packaging is really cute and simple. I love the gold and purple lid. You get 10ml of product which is a bit more than other concealers that I have purchased. Tarte has a really great range of 14 shades to choose from, so you are bound to find a shade for you. I was so worried that I would choose the wrong shade (this is why I loathe ordering makeup online) but Tarte has made it really easy, as they have added a mini description to each shade. I picked up the shade “Fair Beige” and the description was “fair skin with pink undertones.” The Shape Tape retails for R320 on the Tarte Cosmetics website.

Overall View?

I’m happy to say that I give it my stamp of total fetchiness. It concealed my tiredness and I feel like my search is finally over. As mentioned early if you have normal/oily skin you will absolutely LOVE this product, if you suffer with dry skin you might need to put in a little extra work to get it to work for you. I do think its worth the work, because the results are fabulous. A quick tip when setting the product with powder, use a damp beauty blender to set the powder with. Works like a BOMB! If you are living in South Africa and wanting to order the Shape Tape off the Tarte Cosmetics website, I would wait for Tarte to have free shipping or alternatively twist three of your friends arms to order along with you. Shipping is free if you spend R1050 or more. Shipping to SA costs quite a bit and a long with customs, you will land up paying more for that than the product. I paid R105 for customs giving me a grand total of R425 for everything.

If you have tried the Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape, I would love to know your views. Comment down below and let me know 🙂

May your foundation match your skin and your concealer be flawless.

Stay Fabulous.
