Happy Friday! Gosh it has been one long week. The weekends are seriously way too short. As some of you may know, Estee Lauder’s Double Wear foundation was my holy grail foundation up until I found out that they still test their products on animals. That’s a HUGE HELL NO! in my books. So I have been on the search for a foundation that could match their Double Wear. I don’t always want full coverage and sometimes I do opt for a BB Cream, but for those nights out or events where you want a flawless finish, a full coverage foundation always comes in handy. I finally made time a while back to go to the Urban Decay store in Sandton. For those of you that are not aware, you can now purchase Urban Decay in South Africa. Yay for days! And for those of you that live under a rock and have never heard of Urban Decay, it is an American brand, that is a subsidiary of the French cosmetics company L’Oreal. They supply a range of cosmetics to suit er’body. The brand is animal cruelty free and suitable for vegans.
I decided to contain myself and limit myself to two products that I ACTUALLY needed. I stayed far away from their lip section as my beauty room is currently overflowing with lip products. I purchased their All Nighter Liquid foundation as well as the Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (quite a mouthful if you ask me). I was so excited to get home and test these babies out, however in the back of my head I was almost 100% positive the foundation shade that was selected for me was WAY too light. I kept convincing myself that there is no way winter affected me that much. Alas, I was totally incorrect and I am in fact that pale at the moment.
My thoughts? Well…
Let’s start with the All Nighter Liquid Foundation. I definitely have not come across a cooler foundation packaging than this one. Urban Decay really hit the nail on the head with this edgy packaging. The foundation comes is a pump bottle. The coverage is totally bomb.com. It covers absolutely everything. If you aren’t into full coverage then this foundation is definitely not for you. You would expect a foundation that covers up so well to be heavy but the formula is extremely lightweight. It honestly doesn’t feel like I’m wearing any foundation at all. This foundation worked wonderfully for my skin, I wouldn’t recommended it to anyone that suffers from extremely dry skin. The finish is matte but not like your typical matte foundations, it’s more like a satin matte finish – I hope that makes sense. The foundation did flake slightly around my nose and chin but after exfoliating the area it seemed to solve the problem – hence why I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone with super dry skin. It did dry very quickly on application, so you have to work really fast when blending. Another thing I picked up is that the foundation goes slightly darker as the day goes on because it oxidizes, so just watch out for that when purchasing your shade. One of the biggest perks of the All Nighter foundation is that it’s waterproof and paraben-free – can I get a HALLELUJAH. The liquid foundation retails for R498.00 and comes in 24 shades. Sadly, not ideal for the girl on a budget but this is definitely a foundation I would save up for.
A small word of advice from me: everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently to products. Before splurging, I would recommended asking for a sample of the foundation to see if it suits your skin type. This bad boy gets a thumbs up from me, definitely a match for Estee Lauder’s double wear.
I have been on the look out for a good concealer for ages, many of the concealers that I have bought seem to flake after a while. I have heard many good things about the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer , so I thought I should give it a go. Once again, I love the packaging. It’s simple and modern. The applicator is a flat wand. The formula of the concealer is quite creamy and a little goes a long way. Urban Decay claims that the concealer never settles in fine lines and I can totally vouch for that. So far I am so impressed with how lightweight Urban Decay products are. The concealer conceals to perfection, it really covers up my “imperfections” beautifully. The concealer is packed with great ingredients for your skin – “Matrixyl 3000 contains anti-wrinkle peptides to improve skin’s youthful appearance and elasticity. Japanese green tea revitalizes and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. Litchiderm™ (derived from lychee fruit) protects against dehydration, resulting in a brighter, more radiant complexion. And sodium hyaluronate helps skin attract and retain moisture.” It has very quickly become my holy grail concealer. The Naked Skin concealer retails for R389.00, again not quite affordable for the girl on the budget. I can with out a doubt say that this concealer is one of the best that I have come across and I will definitely be purchasing it again.
I’ve always felt that a good foundation is always key to a completed makeup look. Take the time to find the best foundation for your skin, it’s important to know the product you are using and what goes into it. It’s always a good idea to do a bit of research before going out and just purchasing any product. If there are any foundations that you would like me to review, just shout and I’ll gladly do it.
I hope you have a stunning day!
