As some of you will know I’m a massive skin care junkie. I believe that the key to a flawless makeup application is having the perfect skin care routine. When a new skin care product hits the shelves, I have to have it. I have to add it to my ridiculous collection of skin care products. I had seem so many big beauty YouTubers going on about the Clinique Take The Day of Balm but sadly it was not available in South Africa – until a few months ago. I bagged it very quickly and couldn’t wait to try it out. As I wear makeup on a daily, I like to do what I call a double cleanse to make sure that all traces of makeup are gone. So in this case I would use the Take the Day of Balm first, to remove my makeup and then proceed with my usual skin care routine.
Before we get into my thoughts on the product, I want to discuss what Clinique claims the product is and does:
“The Take the Day of Balm is Lightweight makeup remover quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeups, sunscreens. Transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly, rinses off completely. Gently helps remove the stress of pollution so skin looks younger, longer. Non-greasy. Non-drying. Ophthalmologist Tested. For all skin types. “
So does Clinique deliver on their claim? Is the makeup remover worth all the hype? Hells yeah, it is. I’m honestly sure impressed with how well it removes my makeup. At first sight, the balm reminded me of coconut oil. When at room temperature the balm is solid but as soon as you start massaging it into your skin it begins to melt and literally melts away your makeup. It even removes waterproof makeup. The balm has a very silky texture and although it seems greasy when you have it on your skin, it does not leave your skin feeling that way at all. My skin feels nice and moisturized. In the first week, I did notice a slight breakout on my forehead but I’m not sure if that was due to the product or if it was just my body being hormonal. The balm has no fragrance at all, and while some people may not like this, it makes the product perfect for people with sensitive skin. I honestly don’t mind the fact that their is no fragrance. A small amount of product goes a long way, so don’t go crazy like I did on the first day. My face was drowning in product because I got overly excited. The packaging is simple, clean and cute. You don’t get the balm in a box or any protective packaging, it sort of comes as it is. I purchased mine off the Red Square website for R295.00, however I can not seem to find it on their site anymore. You are able to purchase it off Clinique’s website for R310.00. The price point may be a little high for some but I assure you the product lasts you quite some time. Clinique also has its first ever stand alone store in Menlyn Shopping Centre, in Pretoria.
In the above image you can see just how well it melts your makeup away, I had waterproof mascara on and the lip product I had on actually stains your lips. There are two ways of removing the balm: 1. wiping it off with a towel (I would highly recommended using a black towel) or 2. washing it off. For the above image, I just wiped it away with a towel.
As mentioned before I use this as the first step to my skin care routine. I wouldn’t recommend using this as an only skin care product. I follow it up with a face wash, a toner and then a moisturizer. I definitely give this my stamp of “TOTAL FETCHINESS”.
If you have tried out the Take the Day of Balm, let me know your thoughts? Do you love it as much as I do?
Remember: “Beautiful skin requires commitment, not a miracle.” Look after it.
