I personally think that your hair is one of your best accessories, so it is really important to look after it. As girl’s we really put our hair through hell. The constant heat from straightening and blow drying to the colour changing. As much as it is a treat for us, it doesn’t mean it’s a treat for our hair. There are certain steps that we can take to avoid damaged and dry hair for example using the correct shampoo, trying an all natural hair mask and just being aware of the chemicals in the products we use.
A dear friend of mine decided that she needed a change and went for the whole ombre look. Within a couple of days I received the following panic message:
“I have a slight crisis and need your advise… so you know I went blonde ombre? In the light it’s blonde and I love it but in the bedrooms or inside the house, it sometimes looks very orangey? What do I do…Heeeeeeeeeeelp”
Once I finished having a bit of a giggling and calmed her down, I explained to her that I too went through the exact same thing when going blonde. Those orange/yellow tones creep up on you and it’s unbelievably annoying. Girls with darker hair do struggle with brassiness when going blonde because we have red and yellow undertones. Luckily this is totally fixable! All you need to purchase is a purple shampoo. How is purple shampoo the answer? Well, purple is the opposite to yellow on the colour wheel and so the purple pigment neutralises the brassy tones. Your hair will not go purple and you will not land up looking like Barney I can assure you.
For the past 2 months I have been using John Frieda’s sheer blonde colour renew shampoo and conditioner and what a difference it has made. Honestly after the first week I saw a huge change in my colour. No more brassiness. The product has brightened up my blonde. The shampoo and conditioner will really help to maintain your blonde locks. I wouldn’t recommend that you use it every time you shampoo, try using it maybe once or twice a week and alternate with another moistuzing shampoo and conditioner, just so you can avoid drying out your hair. The shampoo lathers well and smells oh so pretty. An added bonus is that the John Frieda products are budget friendly. Both the shampoo and conditioner go for R95 each at all Clicks stores.
So if you do plan on going lighter this summer, it really is a good idea that you get yourself a purple shampoo. I highly recommend the John Frieda Colour Renew. I sadly didn’t take before and after pictures, it was a total blonde moment.
Let me know if this product has helped you as much as its helped me! Wishing you all a super fabulous day!
