I actually can’t wrap my head around the fact that we are in March already and Autumn is upon us. I usually dread the Autumn/Winter seasons but this year I’m embracing them. I feel like a changed woman haha. It’s all about preparation and this year I really do feel prepared. Fall and Winter are very dry seasons and that obviously does NO good for our poor skin. My skin is at it’s driest during this time and as some of you will know I hate nothing more than dry skin (aside from bad eyebrows). Just the thought of it is making me want to gag.
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend a launch for a new skincare brand that has come to South Africa. The brand is no stranger to the European market, in fact it’s been around for 93 YEARS! The brand was founded by a French Pharmacist by the name of Dr Roger. He mixed active ingredients to create ointments that would help soothe sensitive and dry skin. His main target market was women, as women suffered badly with dry and sensitive skin from doing house chores. Dr Roger used a special mixing technique to blend cream with traditional apothecary ingredients. The special mixing technique is what inspired the name of the brand: Mixa.
Mixa believe that by improving the quality of ones sensitive skin, you can improve the quality of your life. As we know being comfortable in our own skin is super important. Mixa is currently the number one body care brand in France and I have a feeling it will win the hearts of South Africans as well. Mixa was kind enough to send us home with some of the range and I couldn’t wait to try it out. My plan for this year was to prepare my skin for the drying season that is coming up, so this really came at a good time. We were given 3 lotions: Anti-Dryness Body Lotion, Restoring Body Lotion & a Soothing Body Lotion as well as the Cica Repair Balm.
The Anti-Dryness body lotion is made with coriander oil. The coriander oil is known to help maintain hydration. The lotion is very light and silky, what I love most is that it does not leave your skin feeling greasy. I have this lotion sitting on my desk in my beauty room and I have been using it on a daily. One pump from the bottle is more than enough for my hands and elbows (there is literally NOTHING worse than dry looking elbows – EW!) At first when I read that it had coriander oil, I kind of made a “stink” face because I did not see how coriander could smell pleasant. To my surprise it smells nothing like coriander and I love the scent. The lotion is also paraben free and perfect for sensitive skin.
The Restoring Lotion’s main ingredient is allantoin – this ingredient helps repair, regenerate, moisturize and soothe the skin. It is perfect for those with sensitive skin. This bad boy sits on my office desk at work, can you tell I’m a freak when it comes to moisturization. The lotion is fast absorbing and just like the anti-dryness lotion, it is non-greasy.
The Soothing Lotion is enriched with oat milk, this helps to improve hydration levels in the skin, and helps soothe any discomfort that your skin is feeling due to dryness. I have not tried this lotion out, the lotion is hypoallergenic and so I will be giving it to my mom as she struggles quite a bit with her skin. The lotion contains no fragrances, no parabens, colourants or alcohol.
All three lotions can be bought in either a 250ml pump bottle (R45.95) or a 400ml pump bottle (R59.95). The price point is incredible.
The Mixa Cica Repair Balm is said to be the star of the show. If you REALLY struggle with SUPER dry skin then this is the product for you. The Cica balm is enriched with panthenol. The panthenol will help repair your skin and soothe any discomfort. The repairing balm is a multi-purpose balm, helping soothe rough patches and very dry skin. The balm is also paraben free, no fragrance and hypoallergenic. The balm is a lot thicker than the lotions but a little still goes a long way. I have been applying it to the soles of my feet after my showers, as this area suffers BAD in winter. PREPARATION IS KEY YA’LL!!! I did try the balm on my face and I wasn’t really loving it, I think it may be due to the thickness of the balm, it felt a little heavy on my face. The balm retails for R79.95 and comes in a 50ml tube. This balm is suitable for the whole family.
Within the range you also get 2 body creams: anti-dryness cream, which is enriched with almond milk and the intense repair cream, which is enriched with shea butter (LOVE ME SOME SHEA BUTTER). The Anti-dryness cream is suitable for the whole family and is hypo-allergenic. Both creams come in a 450ml tub and retail for R65.95.
All in all, I’m very impressed with the brand. It’s great to use a product that actually works and is super affordable. I kind of dig the packaging, its a little old school and I like that. The range can be bought at Dischem and Clicks stores as well as online on Take A lot. Have you tried Mixa out? Let me know your thoughts, I would love to know.
